Capstone Urban Garden Since many parts of New Orleans are food deserts, where the nearest supermarket is far away and local stores do not sell fresh produce, vacant lots often host urban gardens. Many of them are managed by charitable organizations that grow food for low-incomehouseholds and offer workshops about growing food, harvesting crops, and eating healthy. Capstone also rescues bee colonies from sites where they would otherwise be destroyed. Most urban garden operators rely on volunteers and donations. Capstone also generates funds by selling honey. |
