back
Mardi Gras Krewes   Carnival is celebrated in all New Orleans wards with parades known as krewes. The season starts on 12th Night—January 6—and ends on Mardi Gras Day. The season's heyday kicks off on the third Saturday before Mardi Gras with the Krewe du Vieux. Throughout the season krewes parade on foot, with non-motorized vehicles, or with tractor-driven floats. On Mardi Gras Day carnival season ends with the entire city celebrating a block party.
