dockland  2001

In dockland the city is shown as a place about to disintegrate. The streets are deserted, the architectural elements shift to the background, large empty spaces characterize the images. The depicted locations are anonymous, it is impossible to relate them to existing places. The title is influenced by the London district docklands even though the pictures were taken in Rotterdam. They are partially digitally altered. In the conversion of port areas into office space of new media companies and lofts for the rich a part of the visible shaping of urban space is dissolving into an ambivalence of the invisible.
